How long have you been with CrossFit Trifecta?
A little over 3 years.

What’s your favorite WOD? (so far)
There are a lot of fun WODs, but for the sake of specificity, I’ll say Helen. I always enjoy a mix of running and strength.

What’s your least favorite WOD? (so far)
Anything that involves thrusters or assault bike. Friday, September 16, 2016 was pretty much my own personal hell (21-15-9 Assault Bike, Thrusters)

In 3 words or less describe your average day at CrossFit Trifecta.
5am Lab Rat

What were you doing before CrossFit?
D-III collegiate soccer, age-group competitive triathlons, distance running, 24-hour fitness membership

How did you hear about CrossFit and/or CrossFit Trifecta?
In 2012, I lived a stone’s throw away from a CrossFit box in Encinitas and decided to give it a try. When my wife and I moved to Vista, I sampled each of the hundreds of CF boxes in the area to find a new home, and CFT was a perfect fit.

Give us some insight as to your thoughts after your first workout at CrossFit Trifecta.
I was used to the rigors of CrossFit WODs, but what surprised me was the level of coaching I received. Top notch, all-around. In short order I was doing movements that had always eluded me at my previous box.

Tell us a little about then vs. now. In regard to your fitness level before you found CrossFit Trifecta to now.
Even though I’ve always enjoyed training for events and working out, I feel that CFT has made me a better all-around athlete. I feel stronger, more mobile, doing the things I love – playing with my kid (soon to be plural), surfing, skiing, etc. CFT has helped me to confront my weaknesses, and given me the tools and knowledge to improve in those areas.

Do you have any special or favorite CrossFit Trifecta memories/moments?

  • Casually going up to Julie, thinking she was Laura (who I knew from the Encinitas CF box), and discovering that Laura has an identical twin Julie!
  • Watching Kornel go from a lowly-crossfitter like me to an oly-lifting beast & coach!
  • Hearing Matt and Kaitlyn recount the events that led to the horrific wounds on their legs and arms. I swear their softball league is more violent than professional football!

What advice would you give to someone just joining CrossFit Trifecta?
Stick with it. Take every opportunity to improve. Don’t skip the “hard” days. If you do skip a day to avoid a WOD, stop reading the WODs beforehand. While there are plenty of WODs that are hard and taxing, seemingly impossible on paper, there has never been a day that I regretted going – after a few hours (days?) of recovery and meditation.

Additional Comments?
I’ve always been impressed with the mix of friendliness, competitiveness, humility, fun, and sense of family that all of the coaches at CFT possess and share with the Tribe. It is this environment that makes CFT such a wonderful place to be a part of.
